The statements heretofore made concerning the accident at Himrods,
on the 22d ult., we learn have not been correct. The man driving
the team belonging to Mr. Evan S. Potter, was Maxwell Cornwell.
He was returning from the sawmill. A gentleman on the wagon
with him, Rev. W.W. Holt, Baptist clergyman at Himrods, jumped
off barely in time to save his life, while the train killed the
horses and driver instantly. The train was at the crossing
north of the village and was going south entirely unobserved by
the driver or by Mr. Holt. Cornwell was 44 years old and left
a wife and four children residing near Himrods. He was a man of
industrious steady habits and had been two or three years in the
employ of Mr. Potter.
(I have a copy of the article, though not a very good one. 3/2005)

NOTE: In the 1980's before Great Aunt Myrts death she gave Bunny genealogy information. That information is what we used as a starting point in our reseach. The following is some of what Bunny was told. We have only been able to verify some of it:
JOHN ?(or FRANK) CURTIS
---------------------
HULDA MEAD
---2nd Husband DYKEMAN
|
-------------------------
---------------------
---------------------

DELOS CORNELL
FRANK DECKER
HENRY WATSON
TOM CURTIS
|
EARL
The boys took the last name of the farmer they were farmed out to.(common in those days). Hulda Mead lived until the early 1900's. Tom Curtis was slim and good looking and Great Aunt Myrte had met him. She said he was in the Spanish-American War and stationed in Key West. Also, Maria disowned her son George (we don't know why).
